Redress for survivors in Scotland

On 14 August 2020, the Scottish government announced proposals to provide financial redress payments of up to £80,000 to survivors of historical child abuse. The provisions are contained in The Redress for Survivors (Historical Child Abuse in Care) (Scotland) Bill. Payments will be made for those who suffered abuse in residential care before 1 December 2004.

Survivors may claim a fixed rate of £10,000, or may have their case individually assed for a payment that could be £20,000, £40,000 or £80,000.

Where the survivor died after 16 November 2016, the next of kin may claim.

This Bill complements other provisions made for abuse victims. [20.08/27]
