FAQs

What time does my sailing course start and finish?

Generally, the courses start at 10:00 am on the first day (Sunday). We finish around 17:00 on the last day (Thursday). Students are welcome to join the Yacht the evening before (Saturday) and/or stay on board the evening of the last day if this is helpful for travel arrangements.

What do I need to bring?

There is a list within the joining instructions of what you will need to bring with you.

What footwear do I need to bring?

Ideally sailing footwear or deck shoes. Soft shoes with non-marking soles are ideal. Flip flops or open toed sandals are not very suitable when the yacht is underway.

Do I need to bring my passport?

Yes, you should carry your passport with you, it is a requirement in Turkey.

Do I need insurance?

Although all training activity is insured by the school, we strongly recommend that you have your own travel insurance as well.

What is included in my course fee?

Except for Own-Boat Tuition, all course fees include RYA materials, lunch and refreshments for classroom theory courses. Onboard breakfasts (cold) and basic lunches, are provided for the public group practical courses, evening meals are usually taken at restaurant jetties that require those onboard to purchase a meal. In those instances, each student can select the menu item of their choice and their meal plus a share of the instructors meal, will be at their expense. Linens and Towels, Mooring and other local fees, fuel and gas are included.

Private courses include RYA materials, all other costs, including the Instructors, are the responsibility of the client.

Where will I go on my course?

Dependent on the weather, you will discover the beautiful bays, anchorages, quiet coves, small harbours, and restaurant pontoons around the bays of Gocek and Fethiye including the spectacular Skopea Limani. We aim to go to a different location each night.

How many students will there be on my boat?

There will always be a maximum of five plus our instructor.

Who does the cooking onboard?

You will experience cooking onboard, but we will also be eating at local restaurants.

Can I bring my mobile phone?

Yes, you can bring your mobile phone, and, in some cases, there are certain apps that the instructor may suggest you use. Other than that, we discourage the use of phones whilst we are learning.

Do I sleep onboard?

Yes, you sleep onboard the boat each night.

Will I have to share a cabin?

It may be necessary for you to share a cabin. Couples and friends will normally share. If you are coming on a course on your own there is a possibility you will have to share a cabin, but this would only be with someone of the same sex.

Is there parking available?

Yes, there is parking available at the marina.

Are all meals provided?

Yes, we will either prepare and eat meals onboard or eat ashore at one of the many Jetty restaurants.

My family and I are hoping to buy our own yacht to cruise around the Mediterranean during daytime hours. What qualifications do I need?

RYA Day skipper is the ideal course for you, and it is also the qualification that is required to hire charter yachts.

Can you cater for my special dietary requirements?

Yes our booking form asks if you have any dietary needs.

Will we be in a marina every night?

No, you will be somewhere different every night, but the venue depends on the needs of the course.

Will I be able plug in my electrical appliances such as my phone charger or hairdryer?

Battery power is limited but mobile phone charging is possible on the 12-volt system. Where shore power is available which is not every night, you will be able to use electrical appliances.

Do you take under 18's on courses?

Yes, we do providing they are supervised by an adult.

Do your boats meet safety requirements?

Our boats are inspected annually by the RYA as well as the Turkish authorities to ensure that the boats are in a seaworthy condition and that they meet the stringent safety requirements laid down for training boats, and that they carry the correct safety equipment.

Are there washing facilities onboard the yacht?

There are washing and showering facilities on the boat, but where possible we encourage students to use shoreside facilities.

Can I smoke onboard?

Smoking is permitted only on deck and strictly forbidden inside the yacht.

Will I get seasick?

Most people are fine, but we suggest you bring some sea sickness pills should you be worried.

I am a complete novice and want to go sailing with my friends but do not want to get in the way. What course would help me to understand more?

A start yachting or competent crew course.

Smart Packing – Suitcase or Bag?

Our yachts are perfectly comfortable and practical, however as with all cabins on a yacht they are compactly designed, therefore we suggest you bring soft, foldable luggage so you can store it away while on your course.

What should I not Forget?

Here is a brief list of useful things to bring with you:

Are we allowed to bring adult beverages?

Yes, for consumption only after the anchor is down and the instructional day is over.

Can I get an instructor to teach me on my own boat?

Definitely – we do this quite often. As this type of course is custom please call or email to discuss options and pricing.
